Recently I was on a roll to Jaipur with a friend of mine. It was just another day, early morning, I got into my car and drove straight to Jaipur; just before coming out of Delhi, I had a stopover at my friend’s place to pick him and then the next stop was in Jaipur. Well, we had a mid highway halt too, of course for a cup of tea at a highway dhaba, couldn’t really skip that. After a short while, we were back on our way to our destination. We reached Jaipur in about 4hr 30mins approximately.
The first huddle was hotel, well not really a huddle but a tough choice to make as there were several luxury properties in and around the area (Tonk Road) such as Radisson, Crowne Plaza, Sarovar, Four Points etc, but we opted for ‘Royal Orchid Hotel’. Right from the elevation this hotel attracted both of us. The building got red bricks exteriors which caught our eyes, and it was easy to decide as where to make our stay during our time in Jaipur.
As we entered the hotel, we were treated with a glass of refreshing watermelon juice. We went straight to the reception, checked in to a suite as we wanted to experience the best. As we enter the hotel, the reception desk was on the left, while on the right there was lounge/bar (Salsa), straight up was a big lobby with a huge flower pot in the middle, moving a little further, there’s elevators on the right, little more further and there are two of the dining houses i.e Limelight and Tiger Trail. While Tiger Trail is just a Dinner speciality restaurant (so it serves dinner only), on the other side, Limelight was a buffet (for breakfast and dinner) restaurant.
Well, the good thing is limelight is a restaurant cum 24/7 coffee shop, they do put up a buffet for morning breakfasts and evening dinner, and the rest is on A la carte basis here.
Upon our arrival here, we went straight to the buffet for breakfast, it was so tempting that we couldn’t even care to go to room and freshen up first. There were croissants, sprouts, fresh cut fruits, fresh fruit juices, cereals, hot & cold coffee, butter milk, flavoured milk, tea, poha, dosa, pav bhaji, stuff parathas and more.
We started off with a little leniency, opted for cereals, croissant and fruits; but the temptation got all over us and we went straight for the dosas and pav bhaji with cold coffee. In my personal opinion, this was so far one of the best dosa I’ve had in a long time; it was so thin and so crisp with delicious masala stuffing and served with sambhar and chutneys.
As for lunch, we were served with a succulent Rajasthani thali on Day 1 and a platter on Day 2.
Rajasthani Thali had Dal Bati Churma, Ker Sangri, Khatte Paneer ki Sabji (for veg)/ Lal maas (for non veg), aloo sabzi, dal ka halwa, khameer (sweet), plain curd, salad and papad along with assorted breads.
Platter on the next day had Paneer tikka, chicken tikka (for starters); dal, paneer, broccoli & asparagus ki sabzi (for veg)/ butter chicken (for non veg) with assorted vegetables and some refreshing mocktails.
Also we had some Fruit Rabdi (in dark chocolate basket) and Chocolate Perline for desserts.
All in all, it was a very nice experience dining in here for few scrumptious meals, staff was very courteous and prompt, also we had a mini interaction with the chef. Would rate the place 4.5/5 for all their efforts including the food, service, attentiveness, ambience etc.
During our stay in Jaipur, we paid a visit to a few forts with historical significances, such as Amber Fort, Nahargarh Fort, Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal and also we visited the actual pink city. We crossed paths with ‘Albert Hall Museum’ too quite a few times.
The forts were beautifully made and the monuments are very well preserved. There’s so much of history in those forts, and built with such a significance. Guides are also available for the guided tours of the forts. Each fort has its own history and significance.
